We’ve all heard that the world’s marine life is being depleted at an alarming rate, sometimes in very destructive ways, but when it comes down to buying seafood or ordering it, it’s difficult to guess which choices are good or bad.
Enter the Blue Ocean Institute, which recently launched FishPhone, an amazingly helpful sustainable seafood text-messaging service, and a mobile-phone-formatted Web page (you can also view it online). If you’re out with your cell phone, text 30644 with the message FISH and the name of the fish in question, and FishPhone will text back Blue Ocean’s assessment on any of over 90 species and alternative choices for fish with significant environmental concerns.
