Have you heard about the Concord Energy and Environment Committee?

Engaging the Concord community through local action to reduce energy use, reduce our carbon footprint, and improve our environment is the mission of the Concord Energy and Environment Committee. The Committee was established by the Concord City Council in April of 2008 upon the recommendation of Concord Mayor Jim Bouley.

The Committee has initiated Concord’s participation in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Community Energy Challenge, supports the effort to implement a Pay As You Throw program for solid waste disposal, and will recommend specific actions regarding climate protection strategies endorsed by the US Conference of Mayors. In future months, the Committee will sponsor efforts encouraging Concord residents to take action to reduce their carbon footprint and will develop a Climate Action Plan for the City of Concord.

The Concord Energy and Environment Committee consists of 15 members appointed by the Mayor:

City Councilor Rob Werner, Chair
City Councilor Liz Blanchard
Kathy Brockett, NH Department of Environmental Services
Don Brueggemann, Bagel Works
Meredith Gonzales, owner of Your Home, Your World
Meredith Hatfield, Public Utilities Commission
Dick Henry, the Jordan Institute
Roger Hawk, Planning Consultant
City Councilor Fred Keach
Don LaTourette, Energy Consultant
Alex Lee, Project Laundry List
Stefan Mattladge, Consultant
City Councilor Jan McClure
Gena Cohen Moses, Attorney
Chuck Willing, Attorney

Phil Browne, Science Teacher at Concord High School (Ad Hoc member)

The committee meets monthly and welcomes the participation of the Concord community. For more information about the Concord Energy and Environment Committee, contact City Councilor Rob Werner at 225-9224 or rwerner@totalnetnh.net

bgreen2 has a point- where are those main street recycling bins? what a great push that would be to influence other cities in new hampshire to follow suit. manchester is still fumbling, with no way for elm st. businesses and residents to recycle at all!
