Because we at GreenGuideNH.com never cease working to bring you more information, readers, this weekend we made a special trip to The Farmers Diner in Quechee, Vt., purely for research purposes. If you haven't been there, we very seriously recommend it.
You see, this really is a farmer's diner -- the restaurant's goal is to serve food from local farmers and small-scale producers. Its menu is a local who's who, including Cabot Creamery, Vermont Butter and Cheese, Harpoon Sodas and even New Hampshire's own Boggy Meadow Farm cheese company.
Besides the earth-friendly aspect of eating food produced in the area, the diner is just a great place to eat: the staff is very friendly, the atmostphere is diner classic, and the food is, well, amazing. At least, that's our humble opinion.
So next time you're thinking of a day trip, consider the Hartford, Vt., area. You can always work off your local burger and shake by hiking down into the Quechee Gorge, just a few minutes down the road.

Suzanne--
I loved Animal, Vegetable, Miracle too. It made me very thoughtful about how and what my family eats...most of the time. I too would love to visit this diner and eat guilt free.
Is this the same diner in VT that I read about in Barbara Kingsolver's "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle"? If so, kudos Green Guide for looking into this spot even further. For those interested in reading that book- I highly recommend it, it changed my food paradigm- multiple copies are available at the Concord Library (it was one of their Concord Reads books last summer). I gave it to several people as Christmas gifts this year!
