CALLING ALL ARTISTS: KIDS WANTED FOR STATE-WIDE POSTER CONTEST! The Blue Ocean Society, a Portsmouth-based non-profit organization is looking for artwork from students K-8 for use in a poster advertising the Annual Coastal Cleanup in New Hampshire! The NH Coastal Cleanup will be held on September 19th, and all posters will be decorated with one lucky student’s design. If the kids are bored this summer, sit them down with crayons and paper and give them the chance to have their design displayed up and down the entire coast of New Hampshire! The New Hampshire Coastal Cleanup is part of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup, which over 100 countries and 45 states have participated in—it is the world’s largest one-day volunteer effort of its kind! With over 1,000 New Hampshire volunteers and 3 tons of garbage last year, Blue Ocean Society is calling all ocean-lovers to make this year’s NH Coastal Cleanup even more successful! For those kids interested in participating in the NH Coastal Cleanup Poster Contest, the rules are quite simple. First, the design should be related to the NH coast, the Coastal Cleanup and/or keeping the NH beaches clean. The design (done with any medium) should be on paper that is at least 8 ½” x 11” The winning student will receive a t-shirt and an award certificate, along with their design on several hundred posters distributed throughout the NH seacoast! Pictures should be submitted to Blue Ocean Society by July 31, 2009, and can be mailed to 143 Pleasant Street, Portsmouth, NH, 03801. Want to get out of the house? Visit Blue Ocean’s new touch tank at the Isles of Shoals Steamship Company and create a poster design there! Materials are provided, and submissions can be given directly to a Blue Ocean Society staff member. While you’re at it, enjoy the live sea creatures and learn about what lives in our ocean! Touch tank hours are seven days a week, 10 am until 2 pm. The Blue Ocean Society for Marine Conservation is a Portsmouth, NH-based non-profit organization that was established in fall 2000.
