$1 Rain Barrel Raffle!By NHCPP | May 04, 2010Portsmouth, NH – The NH Coastal Protection Partnership (NH Coast) will be raffling off a 55 gallon rain barrel at the 3rd Annual Portsmouth Sustainability Fair on Saturday, May 8. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $1 at our table on the day of the event or in advance online at www.nhcoast.org. The fair is being held at the Portsmouth Middle School - 155 Parrot Ave in Portsmouth, NH - from 10 AM to 3 PM. NH Coast is working to promote the use of rain barrels as a solution to run-off pollution in the Great Bay Estuary. Local residents can use rain barrels to collect stormwater before it runs off and put it too good use watering gardens and indoor plants. “Hooking a rain barrel up to the downspout of your gutter is a great way to contain stormwater before it travels across lawns and roadways, collecting pollution from fertilizers and leaky motor vehicle engines that can end up in the estuary,” according to David Anderson, Project Coordinator for NH Coast. The raffle winner must be willing to pick up the rain barrel in Portsmouth within 30 days of the contest’s end date. Rain barrels can also be purchased online for $45 by visiting our website at www.nhcoast.org. Our staff and volunteers make the rain barrels locally out recycled food grade drums. The NHCPP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the raffle will be used to purchase supplies for demonstration rain gardens in New Castle and Portsmouth.
